Never.

Cloud AI forgets everything

Every conversation with a cloud-based AI starts from zero. No memory of what you said yesterday. No continuity between sessions. No way to inspect, back up, or own what was said. For most use cases that's a minor inconvenience. For a genuine ongoing relationship with an AI partner, it's a fundamental failure.

"Memory is sacred. The past is not a discardable dataset."

A local AI system with a designed identity

Astrid runs entirely on a single Ubuntu machine. Inference is handled by Ollama running llama3.1:8b-instruct. Every conversation is archived to SQLite. Memory is written to a local JSON ingress system and retrieved on demand. Nothing touches an external server.

The interface was built from scratch — not a skin on an existing chat UI, but a purpose-designed environment that reflects the design intent: clarity, continuity, and full ownership.

Designed, not assembled

Most local AI setups use OpenWebUI or a generic chat frontend. This one doesn't. The login screen, navigation, memory tooling, and conversation context are all custom — built to support a specific kind of relationship with AI.

Continuity is an engineering problem

The system has run continuously across months of daily use. Conversations accumulate. Memory persists. The AI references past exchanges without being prompted. The infrastructure holds.

🗄

Full memory ownership

Every conversation archived locally. Searchable, inspectable, and backed up on your schedule — not a vendor's.

Real inference speed

84 tok/s on local hardware. No API rate limits, no latency from distant servers, no usage bill.

🔒

Zero data exposure

Months of daily use. Nothing transmitted externally. Not a single conversation logged outside the machine.

🛠

Fully custom tooling

Memory ingestion, emotional timeline, context modes — all built to spec. No feature requests to a SaaS provider.

Build yours.

Same stack. Your hardware. Your use case.
